I recently got to read my first e-book on the iPad 2. J.R.R. Tolkien was a biography of one of the most famous Author’s in history. He is most well-known for writing the Hobbit and the Lord Of The Rings series.

Tolkien was born in South Africa but later migrated to Oxford University. He also served in Word War I.

During those young informative years he met up with several other writers and pursued his dream of becoming one of the world’s most renown writers of all time penning the Lord Of The Rings series of books.

This is the first Biography I have read in a long time, and I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit. I also enjoyed getting this in an e-book format and reading it on my iPad2.

Book Review: Cure For The Common Life – by Max Lucado

Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado discusses how our lives (however common they may be) can get stale. Max talks about how we don’t always find meaning in our daily lives for Work, Talents, and much more.

The first step is finding your “Sweet Spot” as Max calls it. That is the spot that God gave you to control your zone/region of life that will be fulfilling and not be in an empty void. God gives us all a Sweet Spot and wants us to find that dwelling location within us.

Throughout the book, there are tools to finding and identifying that Sweet Spot in your Common Life. This is the “Prescription” that Max is sending our way to help us get more in touch with God and taking that Common Life and making it fulfilling to us and God.

Tipper, a young emerlindian is in charge of keeping up her family’s estate since her father (who is a sculptor by trade) disappeared.

During that time she earns her keep by selling her father’s artwork that has been produced through the years. Unfortunately three statues that she sells were the foundation of her world and it starts crumbling before her.

She comes to find out she must free her father to save the world, but she can’t do it alone.

Along the way she enlists the aid of several strange companions: Beccaroon, a giant parrot, Bealomondore, an aristocratic young artist, a handsome dragonkeeper prince, a Wizard by the name of Fenworth, and a librarian named Librettowit.

Along the way they learn to become trusted Servants to get to the bottom of the calamity.

This is actually the first book in the Dragons series by Donita K. Paul. There is a third book expecting to be released in the fall of 2011.

Book Review: The Seraph Seal

The Seraph Seal has some strong Apocalyptic fiction throughout. Although, you may find yourself losing yourself in the fiction and debating if it is indeed fact.

The year is 2048. Matthew Serafino is sworn in as the next US President. While over at the University of Virginia a historian by the name of Paul Binder receives a cryptic message and summons him. Paul follows it to London where he meets Angela Matthews Krall, a manuscript specialist. They both are trying to decipher a Syrian letter with special powers. As they journey on their path, they are led to life or death situations.

Along the way, catastrophes adorn their path. This leads them to struggling with their own faiths.

While they are in this struggle they reach the decisions to either lead people to a new future or watch as Earth becomes totally devastated with destruction.

Does that sound good or what? If you like fiction, this is a great read. It reads quickly and has some great illustrations throughout the book.

Review: Primal by Mark Batterson (DVD Review)

I had the opportunity to review the DVD Primal by Mark Batterson. This DVD is part of a small group study curriculum that will take you on a five-week journey back to pure faith. Mark goes over what it means to Love God with all your Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength.

Although a Small group guide can be purchased along with the DVD it’s not completely necessary. There are a few questions that are on the screen at the end of each session and that can take you into the completion of each study.

The DVD does refer to chapters of the book that you may want to read to go more in-depth. But again, it’s not absolutely necessary.

The DVD also offers a printable conversation guide in PDF format.

If you are looking for a small group resource to get back down to the Primal Christianity and your Faith, this just might be the one to choose for your group.

The DVD has a suggested retail price of $24.99.

Book Review: Reggie

Reggie Dabbs tells us about his life, and how one day while in grade school he found out the real reason he existed. Right then everything changed. Reggie tells us about his life growing up and getting teased along the way for various reasons, but he always took all that and bottled it up to use it for something useful in life and help others along the way. Today, Reggie is one of the most sought after motivational speakers and a great man of God. Reggie is available to come out and talk to your schools, corporations, and more. If you want to hear a great story of a man of God and have some humor as well as a little shedding of tears along the way, this book is the ideal book. It’s easy to read, it will have you wanting to know more without putting it down. Each page will lend itself to something that will touch your life in one way or another.

At the end of each chapter, Reggie provides questions for the reader to think about and apply in their lives.

This book could be used for group study, or for individuals who want to get to know a man of God, his story, and one heck of guy!

Book Review: Sir Quinlan and the Swords of Valor

Sir Quinlan and the Swords of Valor starts off with him (Sir Quinlan) leaving his friend and gets recruited by Sir Baylor and the offer to join the Knights Of Valor. Soon after a tragedy occurs and the Knights eventually disband. Sir Quinlan travels alone and encounters Taras who offers Sir Quinlan a chance to redeem himself of this tragedy and rejoin the Knights. Along the way Sir Quinlan gets a chance to face his past and try to redeem himself from the Tragedy.

Sir Quinlan faces the Dark Knight and a battle begins…but can he be victorious and redeem himself? Get the book, read it and find out!

This book is well written and illustrations throughout add to the already well designed front cover.

This is a book that is great for younger readers and gives us allegorical references to where the Knights are Christians, the Silent Warriors are Angels, and the Shadow Warriors are Demons.

Each page turn will keep you wanting to read more. It’s that good!

Book Review: Max On Life by Max Lucado

In Max Lucado’s newest book “Max On Life” he answers 172 questions that have either been emailed, postal mailed, texted or just written on a napkin to him. These are answers and Insights to your most important questions.

In every single answer he refers back to biblical teachings and keeps the spirit of the Truth alive in his words throughout.

While reading some of the questions and answers, I thought about how I either have or had the same question at one time or another in my own life. Max does not know all the answers but he can point you to a great resource that does, and that resource is our God!

The book makes a great gift to people who are seeking answers. Who knows…maybe one of their questions is in this book and may give them some Biblical and Spiritual insights?
